The visit of Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the Federal President of Germany, begins today in Ukraine.

It’s an important event for our relations.

However, it is an occasion for a frank exchange.

A few recent events in the relations between some European capitals and Moscow have raised our concerns and should be clarified.

The most important question relates to the commercialization of values ​​that have always been associated with our leading partners in Europe.

Ukraine has the right to raise the matter.

It seems difficult for us to interlink the values ​​of the United Europe with the intentions of the German colleagues to launch the North Stream-2 project with Putin’s Russia.

This project has never been a commercial one. This is a project of geopolitical corruption on the part of Russia, which can cause an irreparable damage to the strategic interests of the whole Europe.

It is no less difficult for us to witness the friendly character and encouraging gestures that President of France Emmanuel Macron demonstrated recently in St. Petersburg at the conversation with the murderer on whose hands are the lives of the passengers of the MH17 flight and more than 10,000 innocent Ukrainians.

We would like to be told by our partners how to perceive the multi-billion dollar investment of the French Total company in the Russian economy?

We would also like to know what President Macron had in mind when said that “he recognizes the role that Russia has built for itself both in its immediate environment and in some other regions of the world.”

Is that for real?

Did the world really hear the words about “the recognition of the role of Russia”? What Russia’s role exactly has the world to recognize, and, apparently, to accept? The role of the killer, slaughterer and invader?

How should we understand the words of the French President that the “ball” is in Ukraine’s court too?

Indeed?

And if there are the answers to these questions, we would like to hear the reaction to a number of others.

What are the values ​​that are being supported by German and French investments in the Russian economy?

How do such actions correspond to the sanctions policy of the West against the state that deliberately violates international norms and principles?

Will this help to influence on the President Putin’s regime? Will it stop Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the West?

Will it help stop the repressions against Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars in the territories occupied by Russia, and to release Oleg Senotsov and other prisoners?

Will it bring democracy and common sense to Russia?

I very much doubt that such policy would help.

But I have no doubt that the truth is on the side of Ukraine.

United Europe is not a project of business and commercial interests for the Ukrainian people.

For us, United Europe is the values ​​and principles that we want to achieve.

I want to believe that our partners understand my point.

Gambling and bargain with Putin is not only a dramatic miscalculation, it is a humiliation for Europe.

It undermines the very foundations of the European security – the security Ukraine is protecting now.

Heute beginnt der Besuch des deutschen Bundespräsidenten Frank-Walter Steinmeier in die Ukraine.

Es ist ein wichtiges Ereignis für unsere Beziehungen.

Aber es ist auch ein Anlass für ein offenes Gespräch.
Viele Ereignisse in den Beziehungen zwischen europäischen Hauptstädten und Moskau bereiten Grund zur Sorge und bedürfen einer Erklärung.
Unsere wichtigste Frage betrifft die Kommerzialisierung der Werte, mit denen führende Partner im Europa immer assoziiert waren.

Und die Ukraine ist berechtigt, diese Frage zu stellen.

Es ist für uns schwierig, die Werte des vereinten Europas mit der Absicht deutscher Kollegen, gemeinsam mit Putins Russland das Projekt Nord Stream 2 zu realisieren, in Einklang zu bringen.

Diese Idee hatte nie eine kommerzielle Bedeutung. In der Realität ist es ein Projekt der geopolitischen Korruption seitens Russland, das einen irreparablen Schaden den strategischen Interessen des gesamten Europas zufügen kann.

Es ist für uns auch genauso schwierig, den wohlwollenden Auftritt und ermutigende Gesten zu verstehen, die vorgestern in Sankt-Petersburg der französische Präsident Emmanuel Macron demonstrierte – in seinem Gespräch mit einem Mörder, der an seinen Händen Blut von unschuldigen Passagieren des Fluges MH17 sowie von über 10 Tausend unschuldigen Ukrainer hat.

Außer Klarheit über Nord Stream 2 möchten wir von unseren Partnern hören, wie wir die milliardenschwere Investition des französischen Unternehmens Total in russische Wirtschaft verstehen sollen?

Wir möchten auch verstehen, was Präsident Macron mit seiner Aussage meinte, daß er „die Rolle anerkennt, die Russland für sich in der nahen Umgebung und in manchen anderen Regionen der Welt aufgebaut hat…“

Haben wir es richtig gehört? Hat die Welt wirklich Wörter über die „Anerkennung der Rolle Russlands“ gehört? Welche Rolle Russlands soll also die Welt anerkennen und offenbar auch akzeptieren? Die Rolle eines Mörders, eines Henkers und eines Okkupanten?
Wie sollen wir die Aussagen des französischen Präsidenten interpretieren, dass „der Ball“ auch bei der Ukraine liegt?

Wirklich?

Und falls es eine Antwort auf diese Fragen gibt, dann wäre auch eine Reaktion auf weitere Fragen gewünscht.

Welche Werte werden durch deutsche und französische Investitionen in die russische Wirtschaft unterstützt?

Wie stehen solche Handlungen im Einklang mit der Sanktionspolitik des Westens gegen einen Staat, der absichtlich internationale Normen und Prinzipien missachtet?

Vielleicht wird es helfen, auf das Regime von Wladimir Putin Einfluss zu nehmen?

Vielleicht wird es die russische Aggression gegen die Ukraine und gegen den Westen stoppen?

Vielleicht wird es helfen, die Repressionen gegen Ukrainer und Krimtataren auf den von Russland okkupierten Gebieten zu verhindern, und Oleh Sentsov sowie andere unsere Gefangenen zu befreien?

Vielleicht wird es nach Russland wieder Demokratie und Vernunft zurückbringen?
Ich habe ernsthafte Zweifel, dass solche Politik diesen Zielen dienen wird.

Aber ich habe keine Zweifel, dass die Wahrheit auf der Seite der Ukraine ist.

Für unser Volk ist ein vereintes Europa kein Projekt der Wirtschaft und kommerziellen Interessen.

Für uns bedeutet ein vereintes Europa Werte und Prinzipien, die wir erreichen wollen.
Ich möchte glauben, dass unsere Partner meinen Gedanken verstehen.

Der kommerzielle Schacher mit Putin ist nicht nur eine dramatische Fehlkalkulation – Europa wird dadurch entwürdigt.

Es bedeutet eine Untergrabung der Grundsätze der europäischen Sicherheit.
Und genau diese Sicherheit wird heute von uns Ukrainer verteidigt.

Notre question clé porte sur la commercialisation des valeurs avec lesquelles nous avons toujours associé nos principaux partenaires en Europe.

Et l’Ukraine a le droit de poser cette question.

Car nous avons du mal à accorder les valeurs d’une Europe unie avec l’intention de nos partenaires allemands de mettre en oeuvre le projet de « Nord Stream 2 » avec la Russie de Poutine.

Cette idée n’a jamais eu aucun fondement commercial. Il s’agit en réalité d’un projet de corruption géopolitique lancé par la Russie et qui risque de porter des dommages irréparables aux intérêts stratégiques de l’Europe entière.

Il est autant difficile pour nous de comprendre la manière amicale et des gestes encourageants manifestés avant-hier à Saint-Pétersbourg par le président français Emmanuel Macron lors de son entretien avec un tueur dont les mains tâchées de sang des innocents passagers du vol MH17 et de plus de 10.000 d’Ukrainiens innocents.

Outre des clarifications sur Nord Stream 2, nous aimerions également demander à nos partenaires comment on doit percevoir des milliards de dollars d’investissements injectés dans l’économie russe par le groupe français Total.

Nous souhaiterions aussi comprendre ce que signifient les propos du président Macron, ayant déclaré qu’il « respecte le rôle que la Russie se donne dans son environnement régional et dans le monde » …

On ne rêve pas ? Le monde a vraiment entendu les mots sur «la reconnaissance du rôle de la Russie » ? Quel est donc exactement ce rôle de la Russie à reconnaître et, logiquement, à accepter? Celui de tueur, de bourreau et d’occupant ?

Comment doit-on comprendre les mots du président de la France sur « la balle » qui «se trouve dans le camp ukrainien »?

Vraiment?

S’il y a des réponses à ces questions-là, on aimerait bien en poser d’autres.

Quelles valeurs sont exprimées par les investissements allemands et français dans l’économie russe?

Comment est-ce que ces actes correspondent aux sanctions occidentales contre la Russie qui bafoue délibérément les normes et principes internationaux?

Peut-être que cela aidera à influencer le régime du président Poutine?

Peut-être que cela arrêtera l’agression russe contre l’Ukraine et l’Occident?

Peut-être que cela aidera à mettre un terme aux répressions contre les Ukrainiens et les Tatars de Crimée dans les territoires occupés par la Russie et que cela nous tous aidera à libérer Oleg Sentsov et nos autres prisonniers?

Peut-être que cela permettra de retourner la démocratie et le bon sens en Russie?

Je doute beaucoup qu’une telle politique puisse y aider.

Mais je n’ai aucun doute que la vérité est du côté ukrainien.

Pour notre peuple, une Europe unie n’est pas un projet d’affaires ou d’intérêt commercial.

Pour nous, une Europe unie représente les valeurs et principes que nous partageons, les standards que nous souhaitons atteindre.

Je tiens à croire que nos partenaires me comprennent.

Le marchandage commercial avec Poutine n’est pas seulement une erreur dramatique, c’est une humiliation pour l’Europe.

Une humiliation qui sape les fondement de la sécurité européenne.

Et c’est justement cette sécurité que l’Ukraine défend aujourd’hui.
